Accommodations available with DIS
If you receive accommodations at your home institution, you can usually find similar accommodations at DIS. Although the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) does not apply to DIS—a private Scandinavian organization—we are committed to making reasonable accommodations for students with documented accommodations at their schools.
How to request accommodations
Our request process will be highly collaborative between you, your school, and DIS. While we may not be able to support all requests, we encourage you to reach out as early as possible (preferably more than 90 days before your Arrival Day) so that we have time to find solutions together.
- Talk to your school’s disability services office or resource center. Discuss your needs and consider how the new environment and culture might affect you. Ask about any support they can offer, including financial assistance and insight into how you can navigate life abroad. You will also need to ask your school for documentation of your disability and accommodations you receive on campus.
- Complete Student Registration and share information relevant to your accommodation. In Registration, you will need to complete Part 1 and Part 2 of the Wellbeing and Accessibility Planning form. Part 2 asks about disability accommodations, dietary restrictions, and allergies. Your information remains private and would be shared only as relevant to your wellbeing.
- You will be prompted to upload documentation to support your request: We only accept documentation from your school’s disability services office. We do not accept doctor or therapist letters.
- DIS will reach out to you. We will review your form, and if further action is required, we will start a dialogue with you and your school to explore our options. We will also provide financial estimates for accommodation needs to assist you and your school with budgeting.
- Collaborate on creative solutions. If a particular accommodation is not available, we will work together to determine possible solutions. DIS aims to approach requests objectively, discussing the possibilities and limitations of our program structure and locations..
