Putting people first

Both Denmark and Sweden rank among the best in the world for overall livability, safety, and wellbeing.

A lot of that satisfaction is attributed to Scandinavian countries’ strong social safety nets, emphasis on work-life balance, and a cultural focus on slowing down, appreciating the details, and enjoying the quieter moments in life.

The people here won’t say everything is perfect, but systems feel like they are built at a human level, where people and their wellbeing are prioritized.

Progress balanced with tradition

From the Viking Age to modern times, Scandinavia has played a significant role in the world for thousands of years. Today, Denmark and Sweden manage to balance their historical connections and their future ambitions, one hand stretched backward, the other reaching forward.

You can feel the balancing act just by walking through the streets. Buildings from the 16th and 17th century are treasured for their history and beautiful facades, while a startup business inside is busy developing the technology that will drive the future.

Living in harmony with nature

Scandinavians are always connected to the nature around them, in ways big and small. Access to nature is treated as a fundamental right throughout the region and people make use of it throughout the year.

Many Swedes are avid hikers, making use of the forests, lakes, and mountains around them to take in the fresh air and explore. In Denmark, where you never find yourself far from the ocean, bathing in the chilly waters is a popular hobby, even in February.

Sustainability

The Scandinavian nations are among the world leaders in championing sustainable initiatives, transitioning to green energy, and mitigating their impact on the climate. Especially with our close ties to the Arctic, where climate change impacts are felt the most, it is especially important for the Scandinavian countries to work towards a more sustainable model for development.

Both Sweden and Denmark have developed a framework towards net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, and each country is home to innovative projects and research designed to help them and others around the world build a more sustainable future.
