Research Assistantships offer you the opportunity to dive deep into a topic, integrate into a local lab, and build skills including synthesis of academic literature, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

Research Assistantships include both 3-credit and 6-credit opportunities and cover a wide range of topics.

You can even pursue your own 3-credit Independent Research Project with the guidance of a DIS faculty member to use Stockholm or Copenhagen as a source for your work.

Research application required

All research positions require you to submit an additional application through the Online Registration portal.

All application materials must be submitted on the following dates by midnight in your time zone:

  • November 1 for spring semester applicants
  • May 1 for fall semester applicants

Complete your application through Student Registration.

IRB and GDPR considerations

Your home institution may require you to acquire further Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval before conducting research in Denmark or Sweden. In these cases, IRB applications must be completed before beginning research at DIS.

Denmark and Sweden are governed under EU law and thus any research conducted here must comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You should be aware of any relevant GDPR guidelines and respect them throughout your participation in research.

With a lab course, you can develop and test your own hypothesis, get your hands on state-of-the-art tools, and practice techniques used by active researchers in your field.

Your work in a DIS lab can cover a wide variety of topics and models, including wet lab, computer labs, observational research, and fieldwork.

Labs and research

Bringing theory and practice together

All lab courses focus on merging academic theory with practical tools and skills, so that you can test your hypotheses, improve key techniques, and generate new knowledge in your field.

Credits and co-requisites

Most labs are 3-credit courses, though a select few are 1-credit.

Most labs have a co-requisite course which frames the lab and provides a theoretical grounding to lab work and activities.
