Investing in Soccer


About this course

This course examines the financial aspects of investing in soccer. We look at typical items appearing in income statements and balance sheets to understand why they differ between clubs and between leagues, before taking a deep dive into media rights, wage structures, transfer fees, and stadium investments. We also look the profiles of typical club owners, the multi-club model and potential synergies, as well as valuation models.

Along the way we will learn from those with firsthand experience, including former players and a stadium developer. The course is interesting for soccer fans and/or those looking at a career in law, accounting, business or finance.

Pre-requisites

One economics course and once course in either accounting or finance at university level.

Students who do not meet this criteria, but can clearly demonstrate through their personal or professional background that they have had exposure to, and interest in, soccer and business will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
